A-Neurosurgery procedures

In the constitution of Institute of Neurological Sciences, two fully equipped operating rooms were set up in order to perform advanced surgical procedures. Institute has a capacity of 40 beds 5 of which is used for intensive care unit.

a) Epilepsy surgery: Especially after the chronic monitoring unit has been in service, the institute became busier with performing epilepsy surgeries. During this procedures corticography and brain mapping is performed.

b) Neuroendoscopy: This procedure is performed during various types of intraventricular approaches. Hydrocephalus, multicompartmental hydrocephalus and intraventricular cysts are the mostly treated cases.

c) Skull base surgery: Advanced surgical procedures have been performed since 1997.

d) Spinal surgery: the surgical treatment of the spine and spinal cord diseases has been performed since the first day of the institute. Especially spinal trauma, degenerative disorders of the spine, spinal tumour surgery and spinal disc hernias (lumbar and cervical) are the situations that  have been mostly treated.

B- Neuroanesthesia

This unit has the responsibility of both two operating rooms and five bedded intensive care unit donated by Mrs. Müveddet Şengiray.

C- Neuropathology

Neuropathology department is a credential center. In the neuropathology laboratory, routine tissue examination is being performed as well as conventional histochemistry and immunohistochemistry methods. Trakya University Faculty of medicine, Department of Pathology and Cardiology Foundation contributed in providing the equipment for our laboratory.

D- Neurootology

Neurootology laboratory was established by the contribution of Mr. Tahincioğlu in 1995. Besides the audiological examinations, modernly equipped balance laboratory is working for both diagnosis and rehabilitation.

E- Electrodiagnostic Unit

The configuration of this laboratory is capable of performing all the neurophysiologic investigations which modern neurology requires. Electroneuromyography (EMG), Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Longstanding monitoring units perform procedures for diagnosis and researches.

F- Pediatric Neurology

This unit has out-patient care for neurology and epilepsy. Epileptic patients are also evaluated for surgery.

G- Pediatric Psychiatry

This unit serves routine pediatric psychiatry care.

H- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

There are two different units for both adult and pediatric patients. Special rehabilitation programs are performed for cases of cerebral palsy and spinal dysraphism.
